McDonald’s response came after the “Agatha All Along” star threw shade at her in a New Yorker profile published Monday. “She’s not a friend,” LuPone said. When LuPone was asked her thoughts on McDonald’s role as Mama Rose in the latest Broadway revival of “Gypsy,” she sat in silence for 15 seconds.
The pair’s squabble only escalated when, years later, Close sat next to LuPone during a tribute to Broadway star Barbara Cook at the Kennedy Center in 2011. “She said, ‘I had nothing to do with it,’” LuPone claimed Close told her. “I wanted to go, ‘Bulls–t, bitch!’” The Post reached out to Close’s rep for comment.
