While the 49ers waived Martinez to make room for defensive end Clelin Ferrell, they're not planning on Martinez being gone long according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Shanahan on Monday in a conference call said Martinez was an option to return to the practice squad. NFL Media's Ian Rapoport later reported Martinez would be rejoining the 49ers.

The San Francisco 49ers are re-signing quarterback Adrian Martinez to their practice squad, after releasing him in the wake of Brock Purdy's return last week, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The 49ers signed Martinez to the practice squad Tuesday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Martinez was cut from the 53-man roster over the weekend after Brock Purdy was cleared to return from his toe injury. Martinez will continue to provide organizational depth at quarterback behind Purdy and Mac Jones.
