Chicago police officials say an officer killed this week was accidentally shot and killed by her partner after they encountered someone with a rifle when they chased a suspect into an apartment.

Officer Krystal Rivera of the Chicago PD died after being unintentionally shot by another officer amidst a confrontation with a suspect. Her death has deeply affected the city and her colleagues.

Late Friday, the Chicago Police Department said that another officer's gunfire "unintentionally struck" the 36-year-old Rivera during an encounter with an armed suspect in Chatham.
