Hundreds of Pioneer Valley residents joined protests in the name of the late civil rights leader U.S. Rep. John Lewis.

Good trouble protests are taking place across the country and in western Massachusetts. Hundreds of people gathered at Pulaski Park in Northampton, all in honor of the late Congressman John Lewis.

Tens of thousands are expected to rally nationwide on the fifth anniversary of the death of a civil rights leader.

Protesters gathered along University Avenue next to Fred Cone Park to join the nationwide “Good Trouble” protest from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Inspired by the late Congressman John Lewis, protest organizers said the display was a response to attacks on people’s “civil and human rights by the Trump administration.”

Protests called "Good Trouble Lives On" are scheduled for July 17, 2025, five years after the death of John Lewis. The protests oppose President Trump's policies and are considered a follow-up to the "No Kings" protests held on June 14,
