The Liberty Flames made NCAA women's softball tournament history on Sunday night, as they became the first team to beat the No. 1 overall seed in the regional round by knocking off Texas A&M in a thrilling three-game series in College Station.

With their 6-5 clinching win over Texas A&M in the Bryan-College Station regional Sunday night, Liberty made NCAA softball history.

If the Flames can make a Cinderella run and win the entire thing, they would join 2014 Florida and 2018 Florida State as the only three teams in the last 10 seasons to have double-digit losses and still win the WCWS.

Kelsey Plum poured in 37 points in her first game with the Los Angeles Sparks to set a new record for the most points in a season opener in league history. The New York Liberty received their rings and beat the Las Vegas Aces behind Natasha Cloud, who made her case as the most important offseason acquisition.

The Lions won 12 straight games to end the regular season and captured the Bay Valley Athletic League title with ease as they outscored their league opponents 131-10 across 10 games. Liberty (20-4, 10-0) also has non-league wins over Granada, College Park, Castro Valley, Archbishop Mitty and California.

But that moment was an example of who Cloud is and why it was so easy for the Liberty to embrace her.
