The National Weather service is highlighting the dangers severe storms pose this week as it observes "Severe Weather Awareness Week" in Kansas.

A statewide tornado drill Wednesday morning will be one of the highlights of Severe Weather Awareness Week in Kansas. Severe weather awareness will be highlighted across the state all this week. It is a week where citizens are urged to become educated about severe weather, and about what to do when it threatens.

The theme for Monday is lightning safety, followed by hail and wind safety, warning reception, tornado safety, and flood safety.

In Kentucky, flood recovery efforts are still in full swing, serving as a stark reminder of the importance of being prepared for such events ahead of Severe Weather Awareness Week.
