Several students from Kingman and Lee Williams high schools are still recovering over one week after their bus flipped over when it collided with an SUV on a freeway just outside of Tucson.Julie Holmes’ daughter Katie was on that bus.

The students and chaperones from Kingman were traveling to Tucson for a Future Business Leaders of America event, the school district said.

While everyone survived the terrifying wreck, one passenger suffered an injury that will impact him for the rest of his life. 16-year-old Bobby Liberto endured a partial left hand amputation as a result of the crash. “It was a parent’s worst nightmare,” said Bobby’s Mother Shelley Liberto.

High school junior Katie Holmes was on the way to a Future Business Leaders of America conference in Tucson last Tuesday when, according to DPS, an SUV crashed into the school bus Holmes and about 40 others were on.

A drive to a competition that Kingman, Arizona, high schoolers expected would further their long-term goals has instead derailed some of them.
