Tropical Storm Humberto forms in Atlantic, forecast to become Cat. 2 hurricane: NHC
Tropical Storm Humberto formed Wednesday afternoon in the Atlantic, becoming the eighth named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, and is forecast to become a hurricane this weekend, the National Hurricane Center.
The team of meteorologists responsible for the Atlantic hurricane season forecast for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) offered their latest update back in August; their prediction for the likelihood of an above-average season is 50%.
Forecasters say environmental conditions remain conducive for gradual development as the system travels west-northwestward across the central tropical Atlantic. The disturbance could reach the Leeward Islands — including the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico — by the middle or latter part of this week.
Forecasters are tracking future Tropical Storm Jerry and another tropical disturbance in the Atlantic, including one with a slight chance of impacting Florida.
