Fort Smith police have arrested a suspect following a stabbing that left a woman with serious injuries Saturday night.

The Fort Smith Police Department said officers arrested 32-year-old Benjamin Hartley Moody.

The band director had worked at Chaffin Middle School and Southside High School.

Fort Smith Public Schools sent a statement confirming that the board voted unanimously to fire Jessica Palmer from her teaching position at Sunnymede Elementary.

Palmer served as the band director at Chaffin Middle School and Southside High School. The contract termination is effective immediately, the district said.
