Police in Ontario said the former pilot flew more than 900 flights with tens of thousands of passengers over 17 years without ever having obtained the license required of a captain.

Air Canada says a former airline captain who flew without a proper licence has been fined by Transport Canada and is the subject of a criminal investigation.

The pilot was arrested on fraud-related charges and later released pending further proceedings, ABC News reported, citing officials.
