Hundreds of staffers at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA, were laid off Thursday as the Trump administration and its newly-created Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE,

Sources said on Thursday that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration became the latest federal agency to be hit with job cuts, possibly affecting up to 1,830 probationary workers.

Hundreds of critical employees from the nation's trusted source for weather forecasts have been fired and sources say more layoffs are expected.

The terminations come days before a potential severe weather outbreak in the southeastern U.S. — and just months ahead of the next Atlantic hurricane season.

The cuts came just before a separate wave of departures was expected under the Trump administration’s so-called deferred resignation program.
