Venezuela sent two planes to bring nearly 200 undocumented migrants back from the United States, saying it hoped for a "new beginning" in ties with Washington.

The undocumented Venezuelans were on their way home, a foreign ministry statement said Monday, after President Nicolas Maduro agreed with a visiting Trump envoy to accept the return of the deported migrants and offered to provide the transport.

Two planes sent by Venezuela returned to the country from El Paso, Texas, on Monday with nearly 200 Venezuelans who were in the U.S. illegally.

The flights, which left Fort Bliss in Texas, represent a significant victory for President Donald Trump, who has vowed to carry out sweeping deportations.

Deportation flights from the US to Venezuela have been halted for years except for a brief period in October 2023 during the Biden administration.
