The Boulder Police Department lifted a mandatory shelter-in-place order that was in place for several hours Monday as SWAT members attempted to negotiate with an armed suspect who ultimately took his own life.

An armed man who was seen on CU Boulder’s campus on Monday afternoon before fleeing to the area of 40th Street and Table Mesa Drive where SWAT negotiated with him, died by suicide Monday

A man died by suicide Monday evening after a standoff with police that lasted more than four hours in south Boulder, city officials said. The incident began at approximately 11:36 a.m. when Boulder police received a call requesting a welfare check for a man in crisis.
