Hours before a massive wall of floodwater barreled down a river in the heart of Texas Hill Country before sunrise on Friday, forecasters with the National Weather Service warned people that dangerous conditions were brewing.

At least 80 people are dead and many more are missing in Texas in the wake of torrential rains and resulting flooding. By far the greatest number of fatalities occurred in Kerr County, where 68 people are believed to be dead,

Texas officials, including Gov. Greg Abbott and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing rescue efforts following catastrophic flooding in the Hill Country. Many of the missing are children from a local camp.
