The largest piece of Mars ever found on Earth was sold for just over $5 million at an auction of rare geological and archaeological objects in New York on Wednesday. But a rare young dinosaur skeleton stole the show when it fetched more than $30 million in a bidding frenzy.

A 54-pound meteorite from Mars sold for more than $5 million when it went up for auction on Wednesday at Sotheby's.

The “Largest Piece of Mars on Earth” just sold at auction for about $5.3 million— $5,296,000, to be exact. Popular Science has reached out to Sotheby’s for confirmation of the sale price.
