As the Sixers continue with the summer league in Las Vegas, McCain has been an active member of the team. Despite not being able to play, the second-year guard from Duke has been hanging around the team and has been a presence in practice as he looks to help the youngsters grow.

LAS VEGAS -- Sixers No. 3 overall pick VJ Edgecombe is set to make his Las Vegas Summer League debut on Tuesday against the Washington Wizards, the team said. Edgecombe posted 28 points and 10 rebounds in a remarkable debut performance at Salt Lake City Summer League, but has missed four consecutive games since due to a thumb sprain.

Jared McCain and VJ Edgecombe emerged from the locker room Saturday afternoon and grabbed a pair of NBA TV microphones. That was part of a mini media tour for the two 76ers guards in the area behind the tunnel of the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

LAS VEGAS — The Charlotte Hornets defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 96-94 in the NBA 2K26 Summer League at Thomas & Mack Center on Saturday.

He's expected to be part of what should be a talented backcourt, with Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain and Quentin Grimes—assuming he eventually re-signs with the team—also expected to have major roles in the 2025-26 campaign. Veterans Kyle Lowry and Eric Gordon could see minutes as well.

We had a brief taste of it against the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City, when the Sixers lost in the final minute, but Edgecombe balled out with 28 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal, and also showed off some trash-talking chops. For a day or so, everything was golden and Summer League vibes were super high.

Judah Mintz, who played in the G League last season, leads the way for Philadelphia in the win at the Salt Lake City Summer League.

Ultimately, Embiid is far and away their most valuable defensive piece. If he is anything close to resembling his typical self as a rim protector, it will cover up a whole lot of weaknesses elsewhere and give Nurse significantly more lineup optionality. That actually happening feels far-fetched.
