The Biden administration’s Title IX rules expanding protections for LGBTQ+ students have been struck down nationwide after a federal judge in Kentucky found that they overstepped the president’s authority.
But on Thursday, U.S. District Judge Danny C. Reeves ruled in Cardona v. Tennessee, tossing out Biden’s Title IX changes nationwide. The decision was in response to a lawsuit brought by Tennessee, West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio and Virginia.
Thursday’s decision is a legal victory for six GOP attorneys general, including KY’s Russell Coleman, who sued last spring to block the new rule change from being enforced.
