Since the Revolution, the Diamond Necklace Affair has inspired several works of literature and films. The diamonds of the original necklace, crafted in the 1770s, were later sold piecemeal on the black market and so are almost impossible to trace.

Composed of approximately 300 carats of old mine-cut diamonds, the historic piece was once worn during royal coronations and is rumoured to hold ties to the scandal that tainted Marie Antoinette’s reputation.
