This time around, NHTSA is investigating whether GM did enough in a recent recall of eAssist-equipped models, namely the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco and the 2012-2013 Buick Regal and LaCrosse.

The ninth-gen Malibu has generated surprisingly few recalls and complaints from the NHTSA, with the 2023 model having been recalled just once for a bad weld affecting around 2,000 models.
