U.S. health officials are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella in contaminated cucumbers after nine people were hospitalized, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

A cucumber recall has been linked to a salmonella outbreak in multiple states, including Illinois and Michigan, and is under investigation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the agency announced Monday. A May 19, 2025, news release from the FDA reports that 26 people across 15 states have become ill in the outbreak of salmonella montevideo.

The Food and Drug Administration announced a recall of cucumbers grown by Bedner Growers and distributed by Fresh Start Produce Sales because of a multistate Salmonella outbreak that has sickened more than 20 people.
