Fort Smith police have arrested a suspect following a stabbing that left a woman with serious injuries Saturday night.

The Fort Smith Police Department said officers arrested 32-year-old Benjamin Hartley Moody.

The band director had worked at Chaffin Middle School and Southside High School.

Palmer served as the band director at Chaffin Middle School and Southside High School. The contract termination is effective immediately, the district said.

A band director fired Wednesday evening by the Fort Smith School Board was arrested Thursday afternoon on suspicion of sexual assault involving a student.

A probable cause affidavit says the band director begged the minor's mother not to report him.
