Gov. Ron DeSantis cut $567 million from the coming state budget. Two of the earmarks axed were for projects at the College of the Florida Keys. That includes $3.5 million lawmakers agreed to apportion for an overhaul of the school’s aged air conditioning system and $2.2 million to expand programs at a new Marine and Maritime Professional Institute.

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the state budget on Monday right at the buzzer, as he put it, the day before it goes into effect. While many requests in South Florida were whacked, likely because of pushback during the recent legislative session from Miami-area Republicans, Tampa Bay was mostly spared from his veto pen.
