The snake, believed to be a rare copperhead, was reported along Attleboro’s Ten Mile River near Milk Street, officials wrote.

Using a photo from the city, the state herpetologist identified it as a northern watersnake, a much more common, nonvenomous snake.

In a statement sent to NewsCenter 5, MassWildlife says they have not confirmed any reports of a copperhead in Attleboro and says that there may be a case of misidentification in relation to the dogs that were reportedly bitten.
