FORT WORTH, Texas — A former Louisville Cardinal is in position to secure his first win on the PGA Tour. Matti Schmid fired a 2-under 68 Saturday at the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club. He shares the lead at 13-under with Ben Griffin. Schmid birded his first three holes of the third round, but played the final 15 1-over.

Scottie Scheffler knew he had to make a bunch of birdies in the third round at Colonial for any chance to win in his third consecutive start.
Scheffler birdied his first two holes before a trio of pars. He then birdied Nos. 6 and 9 to make the turn in 31. He birdied the 10th before making a 15-footer for eagle on the 11th. Scheffler extended his cuts made streak to 55 on Friday in his home state of Texas. Xander Schauffele holds the active cuts made streak on the PGA Tour at 64.
