Salt Lake City's mayor has proposed three new city flags to circumvent a recent Utah law that effectively banned the flying of LGBTQ pride and other identity flags at all public buildings in the state.

The Democratic controlled cities of Salt Lake City and Boise adopted new city flags this week showing support for LGBTQ+ people in defiance of their states’ Republican-controlled Legislatures, which have banned traditional rainbow pride flags at schools and government buildings.

The cities approved several new flags after Utah and Idaho passed laws barring unofficial flags from being displayed on government property.
