As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 7,299, [10][11] an increase of 838 (+13.0%) from the 2010 census count of 6,461, [20][21] which in turn reflected a decline of 251 (−3.7%) from the 6,712 counted in the 2000 census. The utility has applied, on behalf of Washington Township, for funding from the New Jersey Infrastructure Bank to cover the cost of that work. That application is under review.
