North Central American English (also known as "Upper Midwestern" [7]), an accent of American English defined more by the absence of certain features than their presence, is spoken in Minnesota, parts of Wisconsin and Iowa, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, portions of Montana and the Dakotas.

Minnesota is in the U.S. region known as the Upper Midwest in interior North America. The state shares a Lake Superior water border with Michigan and Wisconsin on the northeast; the remainder of the eastern border is with Wisconsin.

The Lay of the Land Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota form the northernmost tier of states in the Old Northwest. They all bound the upper Great Lakes (Lakes Superior, Michigan and Huron). Their abundant waters empty east into the St. Lawrence river and south into the Mississippi.

The East North Central Division includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin, all of which are also part of the Great Lakes region. The West North Central Division includes Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, and South Dakota, several of which are located, at least partly, within the Great Plains region.

Jul 10, 2018 · For this post, we’re going to explore Upper Peninsula Michigan, separated from lower Michigan by Lake Michigan, the Straits of Mackinac, and Lake Huron. The UP is known for its wilderness, mining history, and lumber. The Keweenaw Peninsula is the northern most part and is known as ‘Copper Country’.

At these split points, it reaches areas around the Great Lakes that coast to coast I-90 can't, climbing further north into Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan. In fact, it is the most northern east-west interstate in the nation!
