It’s official! Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park in Southern Alberta has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Writing-on-Stone, or Áísínai’pi, which gets its name from the ancient rock art among its sandstone cliffs, is a sacred place for Indigenous Blackfoot people. The UN organization tasked with preserving the world’s most important cultural sites officially added the provincial park to its global list this week.
