Gaslight (1944), directed by George Cukor, is a psychological thriller that gave the world the term “gaslighting.” Set in Victorian London, the film follows a woman (Ingrid Bergman) whose husband (Charles Boyer) manipulates her into believing she’s going mad. Cukor masterfully crafts an atmosphere of paranoia through shadowy interiors and dimming gaslights. Bergman won an Oscar for her performance. The film is a remake of a 1940 British version and was based on Patrick Hamilton’s 1938 play Gas L

You can spot some of the many motels that lined the lake, the old train station, and some of the tourist attractions, including Fort William Henry and Gaslight Village. Then it's on to Animal Land (where you can "Call from the car"), finally ending up further south at Fairytale Land in Saratoga Springs." (Look really close and y

The word “gaslighting” actually comes from a creepy psychological trick that started with literal gas-powered lights. In the 1938 play Gas Light (later turned into the 1944 film Gaslight starring Ingrid Bergman), a husband secretly dims the gas lamps in their house… then tells his wife she’s imagining it. The lights flicker. She notices. He denies it. Again and again. He moves objects, hides things, and keeps insisting she’s “crazy” — all to make her doubt her own reality so he can control her.
